Webb Gardeners,
Hello. I hope everyone is getting out and enjoying this weather. I know that several of you are because you've asked me about when the water will be turned on. Well, I've been wondering the same thing. The city informed LEAF over 2 weeks ago that the plumber was going around to the parks and turning on the water.
I'm now starting to wonder if Webb has somehow been overlooked. I have a call in to Kevin Butler, the council person in Webb's area. When he returns my call, I'll ask about the water. Give me a few more days to work on this and then I'm going to encourage all of the gardeners to call Mr. Butler as well. I think we've been patient enough.
Thanks,
Amy

Webb Gardeners,
Below is an email I received last week regarding the water situation. While I am not enjoying the unknown timeline, I'm happy we're getting a spigot rather than using a neighborhood fire hydrant. Keep hope alive.
Your patience in this matter is appreciated.
Amy

Subject: Water
Hi Everyone,
I just met with the water department this morning.
I have two hydrant meters - one for Madison and one for Kaufmann. We need to get a hydrant wrench for each. I can't do that today, but tomorrow I can go purchase them. They will be about $30 each.
It sounds like this will be our source of water for those parks for this year. The cost to bring water over to each garden was too much for the city to pull off right now. The meters have a connection for a garden hose.
Cove and Webb will be getting spigots, but the timing is unknown. Nick from the water department is going to call me and let me know when those will be done. I will pass the message along.

From Amy's email:
On a different note, we have once again made contact with the city regarding the lack of water hook-up. Please know that LEAF is working very hard to get the water to Webb. I'll let you know when I know more.

The water spigot works. You can hook the hose up to it and go to town.

Hi all. Am I blind? Where is the water spigot exactly? I found a hose and a newly cemented block, but now spigot. Where should I be looking?
Thanks!!

I know what it looks like because we have the same system at Plover. It is just a piece of plumbing that pokes maybe 6 inches out of the ground. There are threads on the end of the plumbing and you just hook the hose on there. Turn the lever to turn on the water. Eventually when they finish there will be a little mini man hole that will cover the entire operation so it's not exposed. It looks like they're going to replace the water fountain too.
A couple of kids were poking at the whole operation with a stick the other day when I was walking up. I turned into a ranting lunatic, telling them that we worked hard to get the city to make another water fountain for them and now they're doing this? They stuttered an apology and ran away. One of them knows me from school, so he's used to it. They do need to cover it before some ding dong does something to it, though.

Ah ha! The mini man hole is covering the spigot. This is why you couldn't see it. You have to lift the plastic lid off with the side tabs and the spigot will be uncovered.
